Croatia Claims their First VNL Victory Over Korea 3:0

In a decisive and thrilling clash, Croatia overpowered Korea 3:0 (23:25, 21:25, 14:25) in the Volleyball Nations League 2023 tournament, displaying their dominance in attack, blocks and digs. This impressive performance sees Croatia get their first VNL victory.

The statistics reveal an intense and close contest, with Croatia achieving 37 attacks, 14 blocks, 6 service aces, and 77 digs against Korea’s equally competitive 36 attacks, 5 blocks, 7 service aces, and 78 digs.

Leading the Croatian squad, Šamadan Martina, the team captain and middle blocker, was in stellar form with a total of 18 absolute points (ABS), comprising 12 attack points, 3 block points, and 3 serve points. She was instrumental in ensuring Croatia’s dominant performance, showcasing her strength and leadership throughout the game.

Karatović Dijana, the outside hitter, also made a significant contribution with 11 ABS, comprising 8 attack points, 2 block points, and 1 serve point. Meanwhile, Mihaljević Andrea, Croatia’s opposite, earned 9 ABS with 8 attack points and 1 serve point, and middle blocker Strunjak Ema secured 8 ABS with 3 attack points, 4 block points, and 1 serve point. Outside hitter Miloš Laura rounded up the Croatian statistics with 7 ABS, consisting of 4 attack points and 3 block points.

Despite their loss, Korea showed a strong performance with middle blocker Jung Hoyoung scoring a total of 10 ABS, including 7 attack points, 2 block points, and 1 serve point. Outside hitter Pyo Seungju made a significant impact with 9 ABS, contributing 8 attack points and 1 serve point. Outside hitter Jeong Jiyun earned 5 ABS solely from attack points, while Moon Jiyun, playing opposite, secured 5 ABS with 3 attack points and 2 block points. Kang Sohwi, another outside hitter, achieved 5 ABS, consisting of 3 attack points and 2 serve points.
