In a thrilling display of skill and precision, the United States bagged an impressive win against China in the Volleyball Nations League 2023. The game, played in three straight sets (28-26, 25-22, 25-18), saw the US team exhibiting unmatched prowess on the court.
The United States, showing superior strategy and execution, dominated the game, achieving a total of 51 attacks, 4 blocks, 6 serve aces, and 34 digs. In contrast, China managed 40 attacks, 0 blocks, 5 serve aces, and 44 digs, a commendable effort but not enough to swing the match in their favor.
Leading the pack for the US was Outside Hitter (OH) Jaeschke Thomas (#17), who tallied a total of 15 Absolute Points Scored (ABS), including 12 from attacks, 2 from blocks, and a single point from serves. OH Defalco Torey (#8) and Opposite (O) Hanes Jake (#9) followed suit, both delivering 11 ABS, with Torey scoring all his points from attacks and Jake splitting his between 10 attack points and a block point.
Middle Blocker (MB) Holt Maxwell (#12) and Averill Taylor (#19) provided essential support, contributing 10 ABS each, with Holt managing an exceptional 4 points from serves, unheard of for his position.
China’s lineup demonstrated resilience despite the defeat. OH Zhang Jingyin (#22) led the team with 15 ABS, achieved through 12 attack points and 3 from serves. Closely following him was Zhai Dejun (#14) with 13 ABS, with a single point coming from serves. Wang Bin (#23) held his own with 11 ABS.
Chinese Middle Blockers Wang Dongchen (#1) and Li Yongzhen (#9) struggled to make their mark, recording only 3 and 2 ABS respectively. Their efforts were hampered by the US team’s strong defenses that successfully stopped their attack attempts.
