Consar Ravenna has officially landed their first victory of the season, delivering a commanding performance on the road against Alva Inox Porto Viro. The team showcased a high level of play and efficiency, securing a crucial three points and signaling a strong rebound after their opening-week loss.
Ravenna’s Dominant Road Performance
This marks Ravenna’s fourth consecutive win in Porto Viro, solidifying the venue as a happy hunting ground for the Consar squad. The team’s strategic play was evident throughout the match, with a remarkable 77% reception efficiency and a potent attacking trio that consistently found the scoreboard.
Key to Ravenna’s success was the outstanding play of their attackers. Georgi Dimitrov was named MVP, leading all scorers with 15 points and an impressive 56% attack efficiency. Marco Cominetti added 13 points, while Filippo Pierotti contributed 11 points to the winning effort. For Alva Inox Porto Viro, Giulio Cantagalli put up a strong fight with 17 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Ravenna’s cohesive performance.
Match Breakdown: A Set-by-Set Analysis
The match kicked off with intense, balanced play, with both teams exchanging points until 9-9 in the first set. Alva Inox attempted to pull away twice, but Ravenna consistently answered back. The set remained tight until the crucial final points, where Consar Ravenna secured a three-point break, sealed by a Dimitrov attack, a Russo ace, and a Porto Viro error, clinching the set 25-22. Dimitrov was particularly effective in this set, scoring seven points with 78% efficiency.
In the second set, the teams again battled point-for-point until 6-6. A Porto Viro error and a strong block by Pierotti gave Ravenna a two-point lead, which they extended to four with another Porto Viro error and an ace from Berger. Inspired by setter Russo, Ravenna’s offense flowed smoothly, building a significant lead that they maintained to win the set comfortably, with Dimitrov delivering a clinical finish.
The third set began with continued side-out exchanges, but Porto Viro managed to build a three-point lead at 9-6, prompting a Ravenna timeout. The break proved effective, as Ravenna responded with a counter-break fueled by points from Berger, Dimitrov, and Russo. Alva Inox surged again to 14-10, but Ravenna chipped away at the deficit, with Pierotti breaking the run and Russo leveling the score at 17-17 with a powerful block. The set became a nail-biting affair, marked by intense rallies, two ejections (one for each team), and multiple video challenges. Porto Viro failed to convert two set points, and Ravenna ultimately clinched the victory on their fifth match point, with Cominetti scoring the final three decisive attacks.
Coach’s Perspective on the Victory
Head coach Fabio Valentini expressed his satisfaction with the result and the team’s performance. “I am happy for the result and for the performance,” Valentini stated. “The team had a good approach and, unlike the previous match, we optimized in transition and counter-attack situations. There has been overall growth compared to the match with Grottazzolina, but we still have room for improvement in many situations because we are recalibrating to a different style of volleyball compared to what we played until last year.”
