Vero Volley Milano is set to wrap up an intense week with a highly anticipated derby match against Laica Cioccolato Uyba Busto Arsizio this Saturday at the Allianz Cloud. This marks the third match in just seven days for Milano, and their second encounter against a Lombardy-based team.
Milano Aims for Fifth Straight Win in Derby Clash
Following a home victory against Novara last Saturday and a midweek triumph over Bergamo, Numia Vero Volley Milano returns to their home court. The team, currently leading the league in blocks with an impressive 46, will face the ‘Farfalle’ (Butterflies) of Busto, who are seeking their second win of the season. This encounter is the 32nd in the history between the two clubs, with Milano holding a slight edge with 17 victories to Busto’s 14. Busto hasn’t defeated Milano since 2021.
A key player to watch for Busto is Leana Grozer, their top scorer with 69 points. Grozer is also the daughter of Georg Grozer, a former Vero Volley player himself.
Key Matchup: Blocking and Fast-Paced Offense
Francesca Bosio, the setter for Numia Vero Volley Milano, emphasized the importance of the upcoming match. “We arrive at the game against Busto very concentrated because, like all games, it’s an important one,” Bosio stated. “We want to continue to do well and grow in every aspect of our game.”
Bosio highlighted specific tactical points: “A fundamental to pay attention to will be block-defense to try to limit their attackers as much as possible, but it will also be important to work well from the serve. They have a fast game, so we want to put them in difficulty in the second line to make their side-out a bit more complicated.”
She added, “We will have to continue to show how well we are doing: game after game we are adding a few more pieces and we want to continue to do so in front of our fans.”
Uyba Seeks Points Against Strong Milano Squad
Laica Cioccolato Uyba arrives in Milan with the clear objective of earning points and improving their standing in the league. Currently sitting in tenth place with four points, Uyba features a renewed squad, including new additions Yukiko Wada and Miku Otomo from Japan. The team, coached by Enrico Barbolini, is coming off their first win of the season after defeating Talmassons in four sets.
Numia Vero Volley Milano, currently tied for second place in the standings with 12 points, is aiming for their fifth consecutive victory, continuing their best-ever start to a season.
The match is scheduled for Saturday, October 24th, at 4:00 PM and will be broadcast live on DAZN and YouTube.
