Olympic beach volleyball gold medalist Anders Mol is making a stunning transition to the indoor game, signing with Italian powerhouse Rana Verona for the upcoming 2026/27 season. This marks a significant move for the Norwegian star, who will bring his championship pedigree to one of the world’s most competitive indoor leagues.

From Beach Gold to SuperLega Challenge

Mol, a dominant force on the beach alongside partner Christian Sørum, is renowned for his incredible success. The duo captured Olympic gold at Tokyo 2020, a bronze at Paris 2024, and the 2022 World Championship, alongside numerous other international accolades. Now, he’s set to test his skills in the demanding environment of Italy’s SuperLega, a league celebrated for its high level of play.

The 29-year-old will reportedly play as an opposite hitter for Rana Verona, a position that requires explosive power and precise attacking. This switch represents a rare but exciting leap from the sand to the hardwood, challenging Mol to adapt his game to new tactics and a different style of play.

Dual-Sport Ambitions for Paris and Beyond

Despite his new indoor venture, Mol has emphasized that his beach volleyball career is far from over. He plans to conclude the current Beach Pro Tour season before fully immersing himself in his indoor commitments with Rana Verona.

Crucially, Mol and Sørum are already looking ahead to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. They intend to reunite next year, with Mol believing his experience in the SuperLega could actually enhance his beach game. “I chose Rana Verona because I found an ambitious club with a clear vision,” Mol stated. “This is an exciting opportunity to challenge myself in a completely new environment. I want to learn every day, give everything for the team, and grow as an player.”

Rana Verona Bolsters Squad with a Champion

The signing is seen as a major coup for Rana Verona, especially after their most successful season to date. The club secured the Italian Cup, finished second in the Super Cup, took third place in the SuperLega, and earned their first-ever qualification for the prestigious CEV Champions League.
