The passion for volleyball reached fever pitch during the CEV Enel EuroVolley 2026 Men, with the clash between Bulgaria and eventual champions Poland shattering attendance records and highlighting a global fan celebration.
Sofia Ignites Fan Frenzy for #EuroVolleyM
Sofia, Bulgaria, emerged as the undisputed heart of fan engagement for the 2026 European Men’s Volleyball Championship. All six matches featuring the host nation, Bulgaria, landed within the tournament’s top ten most-attended fixtures, underscoring the immense local support and the competition’s broad appeal.
The electrifying encounter between Bulgaria and Poland on September 16th, held in Arena 8888 Sofia, claimed the top spot as the most-attended match of the entire tournament. A staggering 13,186 spectators packed the venue, demonstrating the fervent appetite for high-level international volleyball in the Bulgarian capital.
Record Crowds Outshine the Grand Finale
Remarkably, three matches played in Sofia drew larger crowds than the tournament’s Grand Finale itself. The Bulgaria vs. Poland showdown was followed by matches against Germany (12,198 attendees) and Ukraine (11,689 attendees), all surpassing the 11,118 fans who witnessed Poland secure the gold medal against France in Milan.
The incredible fan turnout wasn’t limited to just one or two marquee matchups. Every single one of Bulgaria’s home games secured a place in the overall Top 10 attendance list. This widespread enthusiasm created an electric atmosphere throughout the competition.
European Volleyball’s Global Appeal on Full Display
Beyond Sofia’s impressive numbers, other host cities also saw significant fan engagement. The match between Finland and Belgium in Tampere captured the second-highest attendance with 12,338 fans. Sofia continued to dominate the rankings with its Round of 16 clash against Germany and the Pool B tie against Ukraine securing third and fourth places, respectively.
The remaining Bulgarian home fixtures further cemented Sofia’s status as a fan hotspot:
- Bulgaria vs. Portugal: 10,678 spectators (7th)
- Bulgaria vs. Israel: 9,865 spectators (8th)
- Bulgaria vs. North Macedonia: 8,892 spectators (10th)
Even neutral spectators and travelling supporters contributed to the vibrant atmosphere. The quarter-final between Poland and Germany in Sofia attracted 7,147 fans, placing it eleventh overall and bringing the total number of matches hosted in Sofia within the Top 15 to seven.
The CEV Enel EuroVolley 2026 Men proved to be more than just a competition; it was a testament to the growing global passion for volleyball, with fans turning stadiums into cauldrons of energy and support.
